At Care Goals, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate support to individuals with disabilities, helping them lead fulfilling lives. We are currently looking for caring, motivated, and experienced Disability Support Workers (preferably Male) to join our team in supporting a young person. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and be committed to helping this individual achieve their personal care and behavioral goals.
Role Overview:
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide direct support to a young person with autism, focusing on enhancing their independence, well-being, and quality of life. The successful candidate will assist with daily living activities, provide emotional support, and work closely with the individual to help manage challenging behaviors, particularly with regards to assist in reducing alcohol consumption.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide person-centered support, ensuring the young person’s safety, comfort, and well-being at all times.
- Assist with daily activities, including personal care, cooking, cleaning, and recreational activities.
- Promote positive behaviors and encourage the development of coping strategies.
- Support the individual in managing specific behavioral challenges
Assist with community access
- Work collaboratively with the individual, their family, and other professionals to set and achieve care goals.
- Monitor and record progress, providing regular updates to supervisors and relevant stakeholders.
- Foster an environment that encourages socialization, independence, and skill development.
- Provide emotional support and build a trusting, respectful relationship.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience working with individuals with autism and/or learning disabilities is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and effective strategies to support individuals with ASD.
- Experience in managing and reducing challenging behaviors in a supportive, empathetic manner.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with individuals and families.
- Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach.
Qualifications:
- Relevant qualifications in disability support, health, or social care (Level 2 or 3, or equivalent) preferred, but not essential.
- A current First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain.
- 100 points ID, WWCC, NDISWC required
- A valid driving license and own vehicle required
