The Role
Deputy Director Resources is part of the Fleet Support Unit's Executive Management Team and is pivotal to enable successful operations through management of finance, procurement, asset management, workforce & organisational structures, contractual negotiations, recruitment and capital program management.
This role leads a team of 7-10 persons directly but also has a leadership requirement across all 800+ FSU personnel.
About our Team
The Fleet Support Unit (FSU) National Office is located at the Garden Island Navy Base (Potts Point NSW), and comprises of approximately 40 team members. Headed by the Executive Director with the support of four Deputy Directors, including the Deputy Director Resources (this role).
The Deputy Director Resources leads a team to manage finance, procurement, asset management, workforce & organisational structures, contractual negotiations, recruitment and capital program management.
FSU is geographically dispersed in five regional offices across four states and made up of approximately 800 technical sailors supported by a small number of APS staff. It maintains significant engineering facilities and capabilities we can use in port or in a deployed manner. These functions combine to create a highly skilled, sovereign, uniformed workforce that provides sustainment capabilities to Defence.

Our ideal candidate would bring:
- Experience developing and managing legislative, policy, procedural and finance compliance frameworks, including an in-depth understanding of Commonwealth procurement processes.
- Well-developed organisational and team management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines, focusing on identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills. Including the ability to deliver presentations to Senior Executives.
- Demonstrated leadership, negotiation, collaboration and training abilities.
