The Opportunity
The Transport Analytics Directorate enables efficient and effective decision making by creating insights and embedding products that transform how data is managed and used. We lead department analytics capability and partner with customers to deliver analytics solutions and insights.
The Data Engineer is accountable to the Senior Data Engineer to ensure successful development, implementation and testing is performed to create transport related data solutions that solve business challenges across the Department.
The incumbent will apply their working knowledge of data engineering to solve real-world problems faced by the Department and explore opportunities for enhancement across multiple projects, teams and business units.

Qualifications/Experience
A tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as data science, data engineering, statistic, mathematics or other relevant degree is highly desirable.
Technical capabilities:
- Highly developed skills in data engineering.
- SQL, Python, DBT (highly desirable).
- Experience in cloud technologies, data warehousing, data pipelines and data lakes.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of data architecture, data modelling, big data, programming.
- Ability to gain transport domain knowledge rapidly.
- Experience working with spatially enabled data.
Special Conditions
- A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment in the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
- Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
