JOB CONTEXT
Under general direction, the role of Domestic Violence Counsellor is to provide trauma informed crisis counselling and support to women and children experiencing or at risk of experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence.
This role is based in Darwin with clients from across the Top End, including remote communities in the NT.It provides therapeutic services to vulnerable women and their children, as well as following-up previous clients to assist their transition back to community.
Demonstrated interest in this field of work, demonstrated capacity to implement strategies to promote and sustain personal and professional wellbeing. Possess a grounded knowledge of Aboriginal ways of being, knowing and doing as the basis for adapting/shaping therapeutic approaches to suit the needs of clients from a diverse range of Aboriginal cultural, spiritual, and social contexts.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1 To enhance the outcomes for DAIWS’ residents and clients by providing trauma informed client focussed counselling services from a strengths-based framework, in relation to addressing their issues and needs, including individual counselling, yarning circles and regular healing programs, engaging Aboriginal interpreters as required. At all times, ensuring delivery of a culturally appropriate and safe practice.
2 Building relationships with and liaising with staff to ensure appropriate internal referrals are made which address the needs of internal residents and outreach clients, including collaborating with colleagues in relation to healing programs, etc.
3 Build and maintain positive working relationships with DV network agencies and services to refer residents and clients as required, and for professional development purposes; eg, Mental Health and AOD organisations.
4 Keeping records, comprehensive and contemporaneous case notes and statistics regarding details of clients , number of sessions and hours per client and referrals, number of safety and wellbeing plans completed with each client in a strict confidential environment, and referrals to other services and the number of wellbeing and healing workshops delivered, in accordance with performance measures stated in the funding agreement as they change from time to time.
5 Provision of quarterly and annual reporting as required, including interim reports as requested, client feedback reports and specific performance reports for funding agency.
6 Establish multiple pathways and mediums to collect client feedback to systematically drive service improvement.
7 The Domestic Violence Counsellor will be expected to contribute to organisational development and review, formal and informal processes which enhance service delivery and the achievement of key performance indicators related to funding. Contribute to developing or reviewing organisational standards, policies, processes as required and promotion of DAIWS. Lead or contribute to submissions for ongoing and one-off grant purposes relevant to this role.
