We are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for Wellard East Primary School (WEPS) (planning name) for permanent, fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term, 2 2026. WEPS will open its doors to the community of Wellard at the commencement of 2026. WEPS is situated on Noongar Whadjuk Boodjar and opens for Kindy to Year 6 students in 2026. At WEPS, our mission is to foster a dynamic and nurturing educational environment where every student can flourish through advocacy and agency.
The school is projected to open with 250 students and will cater for 540 students. The build includes state of the art facilities including a welcoming administration and innovative early childhood learning environments. In order to maximise green and play spaces the build will include two double storey general teaching blocks. In addition, the students will have access to modern, state-of the art specialist learning areas to cater for visual arts, performing arts, science, and technology. In addition, there will be well resourced shared spaces including: a library, covered assembly area, oval and hard courts.
The Role
Our foundation Deputy Principals should possess all the personal attributes of an effective leader including self-awareness, a drive to excel, a learner mindset, openness to feedback, and resilience. The school will be working to establish strong relationships across the entire school community including staff, parents, students and outside agencies. Experience in effective change management; growing high performing teams and fostering an embedded performance development culture are considered imperative for this role, therefore applicants with such experience will be highly desirable. There will be two positions that will commence in 2025, with one starting in Term Two and the other deputy in Term Four.
Candidates will ideally display:
An ability in strategic planning to identify school needs and action a comprehensive plan addressing areas for improvement while fostering academic excellence. Capacity to manage staff performance effectively, providing mentorship, feedback, and professional development opportunities to ensure a high standard of teaching and collaboration. Extensive curriculum knowledge and experience in strategically leading continuous improvement, embedding evidence informed practice, high expectations for students in Literacy and Numeracy and / or Strong knowledge and skills in student services and multi-tiered system of supports. Deep understanding of the functions of student behaviour in the context of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, trauma and inclusive practice.
