The Opportunity
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Executive Level 1 Assistant Director Physical Security within Security Enabling Services Branch. Security Enabling Services Branch is a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. Who we are looking for
An ideal candidate would be self-motivated, collaborative and innovative. Reporting to the Director Security Capability, this role has primary responsibility for the management of security zones within APH, ensuring compliance with ASIO technical notes and PSPF requirements. The Physical Security team are also responsible for the management of offsite guarding contracts, after hours alarm responses, secure waste disposal.
Working collaboratively with DPS line areas, including other Security Branch Sections and key APH stakeholders in providing specialist advice contributing to the delivery of security enhancements, projects, and initiatives. The role is required to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and supervisors to ensure that all work is undertaken in a professional and timely manner.
Job Specific Requirements
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.

Duty Statement

Section: Security Capability
Immediate supervisor: Director Security Capability
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Executive Level 1 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide effective leadership to a team with responsibility for the management of the Department’s physical security environment, capability and compliance.
- Effectively manage relevant requirements in accordance with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), including specifically the Department’s accreditation and certification requirements for physical security zones, secure containers, and secure waste disposal.
- Develop and, where applicable, monitor and report on implementation of DPS policy and procedural outcomes to provide assurance of PSPF compliance and/or achievement of the objectives.
- Provide advice to the Branch’s executive team and the DPS Security Committee on physical security, including preparation of formal briefings and agenda papers to inform decision-makers.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including across Parliamentary Departments, Department of Finance and the Australian Federal Police (AFP), to support outcomes and business requirements.
- Actively shape team culture and leadership in promoting a positive security culture at Australian Parliament House.

Conditions of Employment
Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
- Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
- Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
- Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
