The salary range for this role is $120,000 – $135,000 exclusive of superannuation.

The Senior Lawyer of our Scaleups & High Growth team is responsible for providing high-quality client delivery work to Australia’s most innovative companies.

You will be an ambitious and experienced corporate, commercial or M&A lawyer who is keen to create impact for our clients, our business and the LUNA brand, with a determination to achieve revenue targets. You will be critical to leading, coaching and mentoring this team, with full support from our leadership team.

If you thrive on building close client relationships and business development, this role offers a unique opportunity to focus on growth. You’ll play a key role in winning new clients and managing client accounts and customer experience. Throughout it all, you’ll help amplify LUNA’s incredible culture.

The Impact You Will Bring

Legal Service Delivery

  • Independently and confidently deliver technically excellent and commercially-focused legal transactions, documents and advice including:
  • Venture Investment Transactions – SAFEs, convertible notes, venture debt, Series A/B+ priced equity raises, and JVs.
  • M&A and Exits – mergers, acquisitions, divestments, strategic partnerships and exits.
  • Structuring Advice – advising on corporate structures, governance for scale and strategic advisory.
  • Employee Incentives – ESOPs, ESSs LFSPs, profit share and other.
  • General Commercial – BAU contracting, (SaaS, technology licensing, distribution, IP, data protection, privacy, supply, T&Cs etc
  • Achieve ambitious individual and team revenue targets with our unique points system (no more time recording).
  • Actively manage client relationships and embrace close client contact with founders, management teams, board and other stakeholders.
  • Learn and develop your skills working with experienced corporate, commercial and M&A leaders.

Team Performance & Culture

  • Contribute to LUNA’s incredible team culture, promote and embrace LUNA’s Core Values.
  • Actively contribute to team meetings, social and business initiatives, strategy, performance, customer experience and knowledge-sharing.
  • Attend leading tech, innovation and VC industry events, network with stakeholders.
  • Support, coach and manage performance of junior lawyers, providing mentorship and professional growth opportunities for lawyers within the team.

Your First 6 Months: What to Expect

  • Delivery: Successfully lead and manage an investment round and an M&A deal in addition to commercial contracts and deals, ESOPs, governance and other strategic and BAU contracting work.
  • Clients: Build close and trusted advisor relationships with clients.
  • Mentoring: Lead, support and mentor junior lawyers within the team and business.
  • Business Development: If you like BD, support or lead our growth in new business.

A Bit About You

  • An LLB or JD from an Australian university and an Australian practicing certificate, between 4-8+ years PQE.
  • Favourable consideration given to top-trier or reputable mid-tier private practice experience and/or Inhouse Counsel experience.
  • Solid foundation and capabilities in commercial investment, M&A, capital raising and other strategic commercial arrangements highly regarded.
  • Experienced with general corporate and commercial matters.
  • Strong drafting, review and negotiation skills.
  • An ability to work independently/autonomously, manage and execute a range of transactions from end to end with confidence, dealing directly with clients on most matters, with supervisory support from Head of Legal.
  • High work ethic, EQ, capability and desire to lead, manage, support and teach other lawyers, where needed.
  • Favourable consideration given to candidates who are knowledgeable and connected in the innovation and/or VC ecosystem with a well developed network, or a strong desire to grow your network.
  • Ability to balance many tasks and projects.
  • Possibility of 0.7 or 0.8 FTE (min) for the perfect candidate.
