We are seeking a passionate Hub Asset Engineer to join Sydney Water's Water Resource Recovery Maintenance Engineering team at the North Head WRRF and take on a key leadership role in developing and implementing asset maintenance and renewal strategies. You’ll optimise the performance and sustainability of Sydney Water’s infrastructure, ensuring efficient operations from creation through to maintenance and renewals. You will also lead critical CAPEX and OPEX projects, including Raw Sludge Pump renewals, NSOOS desilting, Solids Stream, and Civil/Geotech projects.

The North Head Water Resource Recovery Facility, located in Manly, serves over one million people across 452 square kilometres, treating 336 million litres of wastewater daily. With ongoing renewal and upgrade projects, this facility ensures water quality before releasing treated water into the ocean. In this role, you will optimise cost, risk, and performance throughout the asset lifecycle, directly supporting Sydney Water’s commitment to sustainability and meeting the growing needs of the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of 1-5 year maintenance and renewal plans, ensuring strategies align with performance, cost, and risk objectives for both new and existing assets.
  • Review and refine asset maintenance and renewal strategies, ensuring alignment with the standards set by the Strategic Asset Management and Performance teams.
  • Oversee condition assessments for all assets, monitor risks, and address issues, including reviewing specialist asset condition reports.
  • Prepare business cases for seed funding for asset renewals.
  • Support frontline operational needs, working closely with the Production Hub Manager and Delivery Team Leader in the Investment Planning process.
  • Lead risk mitigation efforts to ensure assets remain within licence limits.
  • Manage assets effectively within Sydney Water’s Maximo Asset Management System or HIDRA.
  • Lead root cause analysis and investigations for complex asset failures or high-cost/frequent failure assets.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of asset management or related fields developed through industry experience.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to synthesise complex information.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, capable of delivering projects both individually and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems relevant to water industry.
  • Advanced communication skills, with the ability to translate technical outcomes into operational needs and ability and to communicate clear objectives.
  • Experience in reliability-centred maintenance, including developing risk-based maintenance strategies and using reliability tools like FMECA.

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated recent experience in the operations, maintenance, and renewals of water assets or relevant industry assets.
  • Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of application.
