Job Description
As Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal advice in relation to general contracts, procurement, data, intellectual property and information technology, privacy and spam. Strong drafting and analytical skills are essential. You will also work on specific projects and guide the business to problem solve in a way that strikes an appropriate balance between achieving Epworth’s strategic objectives and sensibly managing legal risk.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role…
- Provide legal advice on strategic commercial contracts and projects aligned with Epworth’s strategy and guide the business in understanding and managing contractual commitments and resolving disputes.
- Develop deep relationships with key business teams at Epworth
- Review, draft and negotiate contracts relating to commercial transactions, including the procurement of goods and services and technology contracts
- Provide strategic legal advice in relation to interpretation of contracts and disputes, regulatory change and internal policies, as well as on a broad range of different subject areas
- Assist with research, registration and searches in relation to intellectual property matters.
- Help the Legal team to stay up to date with changes in laws. Anticipate the legal needs of the business by proactively identifying legal trends, risks and opportunities. Work with other members of the Legal team to develop and deliver timely and relevant legal and compliance training to other Epworth teams.
- Identify opportunities, and develop solutions, for streamlining processes in the legal team including implementing innovative systems, templates and other standard documents to facilitate efficient conduct by the Legal team and Epworth.
You will have:
You are an experienced lawyer who thrives on legal excellence and professionalism in actively managing legal risk in line with commercial and strategic priorities.
- Bachelor of Laws qualification and unrestricted admission to legal practice in Australia
- 6+ years Post qualification experience (PQE) as a lawyer at a legal firm or in-house experience
- Prior experience providing corporate / commercial legal advice and negotiating and advising on contracts
- Strategic thinker with a knack for solving complex problems in dynamic environments.
- Results-driven and commercially astute, with sound business judgment.
- Agile mindset, embracing new technologies and collaborative ways of working.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, adept at influencing stakeholders effectively.
- Experience in healthcare would also be beneficial, but is not essential
- Adaptable, willing to learn and comfortable operating in new and grey legal areas
- Excellent organisational skills, including prioritisation and time management
