About the Team
Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.
The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.
About the Opportunity
As the Signal Engineering Manager, you will manage the front line signal engineering services, including directing the technical support to the Operations team, to ensure safe and reliable signalling systems and infrastructure. Through various assurance frameworks you will identify and pragmatically manage emerging issues with signalling infrastructure and engage with asset management teams on the development and delivery of works that affect signalling function and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure sound engineering advice is provided to the asset maintenance teams that balances competing priorities of technical compliance, regulatory requirements and customer expectations
  • Ensure that there is detailed analysis and evaluation of signal engineering risks by internal stakeholders including implementation of mitigating actions
  • Develop and implement asset maintenance initiatives that assist in achieving asset intervention based upon a predictive maintenance approach
  • Advising the Asset Maintenance team on emerging maintenance issues to ensure a robust engineering framework around operational maintenance decisions
  • Reviewing asset performance information to identify root cause of infrastructure related issues and formulate strategies to improve failure performance
  • Support the operation of the network through the provision engineering advice, direction and coordinate the plan of activities required to resolve complex asset maintenance issues as they arise. This may include afterhours work
  • Provide effective mentoring for the signal engineering team, to ensure the continuous growth of the team capabilities


What do we want from you?
To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent technical expertise in a field relating to signalling infrastructure and systems
  • Eligibility for membership of the Institute of Engineers or the Institute of Railway Signal Engineers
  • Highly developed negotiation skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Well-developed interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate staff
  • Proven ability to plan and organise self and staff
  • Knowledge of Railway operational safe working systems and signalling principles
  • Ability to lead change process and to motivate and influence staff
