Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) provides comprehensive health care services across several local government areas, with a focus on excellence and community collaboration.

  • Serves Auburn, Blacktown, The Hills Shire, Cumberland, and Parramatta LGAs.
  • Delivers primary, secondary, and tertiary health care services.

  • Hosts the Transcultural Mental Health Centre (TMHC), a state-wide service.
  • TMHC offers transcultural mental health support, professional development, and resources.

What you'll be doing
This new position within the Transcultural Mental Health Line focuses on providing culturally responsive mental health support and information for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities across New South Wales.

  • Deliver timely, high-quality advice, information, and brief interventions via phone and online platforms.
  • Utilise bilingual and bi-cultural skills to enhance engagement, clinical outcomes, and effective service referrals.
  • Conduct brief assessments, offer culturally relevant support, and link consumers to appropriate services.
  • Collaborate with mental health teams, interpreters, NGOs, and other providers to ensure seamless care.
  • Maintain professional standards, contribute to service improvements, and participate in clinical supervision and education.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualification: Tertiary qualifications in social work or psychology
  • Registration: Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or for Social Workers, eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

Selection Criteria:

  • Extensive experience in providing mental health and psychosocial assessment for consumers, families, and carers from culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Demonstrate transcultural knowledge and experience and bilingual professional capacity
  • Demonstrable experience in providing care or service to traumatised populations.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with clients across cultures
  • High level of written and spoken communication skills including use of telephone and online modalities
  • Experience in building and maintaining networks with health or welfare providers
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills with attention to detail
  • High level understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and cultural safety
