AEMO at the Heart of Energy
AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.
About the role
In this role you’ll be responsible for the technical co-ordination and project management of operational projects, including procurements for power system services and managing the introduction of new operational requirements. You will be a key driver of the change, advice and services required for system security over a one-to-two-year time frame. You will also be responsible for supporting the establishment and running of new regulatory functions for AEMO including the new security scheduling function, which is being introduced by the Improving Security Frameworks (ISF) NEM Reform Project.
What you will be doing
- Management of transition plans to ensure AEMO and external parties are prepared for operational transition points, including making sure risks are being identified so that senior engineers and others be informed to manage them.
- Strategically lead the agenda and message for AEMO’s collaboration with external and internal parties by ensuring that individual project issues are constructively resolved, focusing on tangible outcomes. Ensure that decision making is fact-based, robustly documented, pragmatic and transparent.
- Provide technical/operational advice, scope of works, business requirements and decision making, utilising constructive and open problem solving, across the areas of energy market operational dispatch/forecasts, settlements, voltage control, system strength and inertia.
- Prepare clear, concise and high quality written and verbal communication to inform internal and external stakeholders on a range of issues for both technical and non-technical audiences. Proactively build AEMO’s reputation as a trusted partner to generation developers, original equipment manufacturers, Government, Network Service Providers, Market Participants, Customers and other stakeholders.
- Review and own sections of the NEM transition plan for system security and the development for tools, services and processes required to manage system security. Support a Security Services Enablement roster (24/7) as part of a wider roster team.
- Be responsible for monitoring and scheduling security services using AEMOs Security Scheduling Function tools and provide advice and reporting on the new scheduling function.
- Raise scheduling function risks and issues as they occur in BAU and provide key SME input for their resolution.
- As this role includes supporting the establishment of the new security scheduling function, the role will initially work closely with the ISF project team, to review and update internal and public facing documents, including policies, guidelines, websites and training, related to the ISF scheduling function changes.
What you will bring to the role

Experience in negotiating the resolution of complex technical issues across stakeholders with competing objectives and a variety of commercial and reputational drivers.
