Overview of the position:

The Specialist, Research Grants is responsible for overseeing the management and co-ordination of the competitive research awards and grants administration processes associated with the life cycle of grants and fellowships and related activities to support the research aims of the University. The role is also responsible for solving complex issues associated with successful grant applications and working with the contracts team to negotiate agreeable solutions with funding bodies, partner organisations and researchers.

As a Specialist, you will:

  • Interpret funding rules and eligibility criteria for competitive grant rounds, including the provision of high level grantsmanship advice on the content of applications to ensure the preparation of high calibre grant applications to contribute to the improvement of the University’s application success rate.
  • Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and university departments to identify and disseminate grant opportunities that align with the university’s research priorities and academic goals.
  • Understand environmental trends and integrate this knowledge in to maintaining a very high level of expertise in at least one major Australian competitive funding source and its schemes and co-ordinate services to and liaison with the relevant funding body on behalf of the University.
  • Role model the recording and updating of pertinent information on the University’s research database and document management systems to ensure high levels of data integrity and accuracy of research income and research grant information.
  • Co-ordinate the provision of training, workshops, and resources to faculties/Institutes, researchers, and staff to enhance their grant-seeking and grant management skills, including support on using grant management systems and tools.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Experience in the preparation and assessment of research funding applications
  • Extensive experience in the tertiary sector in particular in a research environment
  • Experience independently interpreting policies and procedures and providing high level advice.
  • Experience in the preparation or assessment of grant applications
