Your opportunity

Mission Australia is seeking a Senior Human Resources Business Partner (SHRBP) to work closely with leaders across our Corporate (National Office) and Housing portfolios. In this key role, you’ll provide strategic and operational advice on people-related matters, including workforce planning, performance management, leadership development, and change management initiatives.

As a trusted advisor, you will support leaders in navigating complex HR and employee relations matters with the aim of developing a positive and engaged workplace culture. You’ll also play a vital role in shaping HR strategies that align with business objectives while helping to build leadership capability across the organisation.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Coach and advise People Leaders at all levels on HR/ER related matters.
  • Manage complex HR/ER related cases such as restructures, employee grievances, position classifications, performance management, misconduct matters, investigations, injury management, casual conversions, disclosable outcomes, and general HR policy related advice.
  • Liaise effectively with key internal stakeholders (Employee Relations, Talent Attraction, Payroll, Safety, HR systems, Risk,) to ensure cases are managed effectively.
  • Conduct job analysis to coach Leaders to create position descriptions that are accurate and in line with the Mission Australia’s guidelines.
  • Coach Leaders to write clear business cases so that organisational restructuring produces efficiencies for the business and funding and budgetary requirements are met.
  • Educate People Leaders on HR related topics such as performance management, conducting difficult conversations, Enterprise Agreement interpretation and HR/IR/Rem & Ben Policies and Procedures. This may include conducting face-to-face training sessions.
  • Work collaboratively as a valued team member and provide coaching and mentoring for more junior staff members.

Requirements for success

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Employee Relations or a related discipline.
  • Substantial experience (7-10 years) working in a senior HR role in an organisation with a business partnering model.
  • Previous experience working in the Not-For-Profit sector is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and applying contemporary employment legislation, industrial instruments and HR policy/procedures including experience using this knowledge to coach and advise Leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under broad direction, exercise initiative and ensure that time is managed effectively.
  • Exceptional listening and engagement skills & ability to build and maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Effective written communication skills including the ability to write position descriptions, reports, case notes, business cases and employment-related letters.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive and complex HR and ER issues.
  • The ability to maintain resilience and manage personal development, self-awareness and own wellness.
  • High level computer literacy including the ability to use MS Office products, payroll/workforce systems.
