In-house Legal, located within the NRMMRRD, provides legal services to three Queensland Government agencies through a corporate partnership arrangement. You will have the opportunity to work in a high performing team which advises on some of the most interesting Queensland Government legal work available in-house. The team draws upon its extensive experience from advising multiple agencies and the work is interesting and varied, particularly as you will often be advising on portfolio legislation for the three agencies which is regularly amended and often hasn’t been judicially considered.

About the role:
In this role you will:
• Work unsupervised to provide independent, quality and timely legal advice and services to the Ministers, the Directors-General and other officers across three agencies.
• Together with officers of Crown Law and external legal service providers, project manage litigation.
• Prepare instructions to the Crown Solicitor or external providers of legal services on complex matters.
• Exercise initiative and independent professional judgment and respond quickly and effectively to non-routine, urgent matters requiring legal advice.
• Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships, including appropriate internal and external networks.
• Draft and update instruments of delegation made by the Ministers and the Directors-General under portfolio legislation across three agencies.
• Assist with responses to notices of non-party disclosure, subpoenas, right to information and other disclosure processes involving the three agencies.
• Participate in the implementation of staff development and training programs and improved systems, methods, and procedures.
What we're looking for:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building positive relationships.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to efficiently provide unsupervised, authoritative legal advice on complex, sensitive matters.
• Experience in public law (interpretation/application of legislation, statutory powers) and/or environmental and resources law.
• A Bachelor of Laws Degree and admission or eligibility for immediate admission as a barrister, solicitor or legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
