Electrical Designer (Primary/Civil Layout)

Aurecon Australasia Pty
Dubbo Full-day Full-time

Description:

Are you ready to help shape Australia’s energy future?
At Aurecon, we’re looking for an Electrical Designer (Primary/Civil Layout) to join our Power Transmission and Distribution team. This role offers the opportunity to work on significant projects across Queensland and beyond, designing critical electrical transmission infrastructure for prominent clients.

Working within our Transmission and Distribution practice, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on fast-paced projects that challenge conventional civil and electrical design. In a period of significant transformation in Queensland’s electricity system, you’ll contribute to the development of state-of-the-art transmission infrastructure (up to 500 kV) that supports the region’s evolving energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities to Bring Ideas to Life

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and refining design layouts for primary electrical and civil requirements in substation projects. You will produce detailed technical models, including 2D/3D representations, and create comprehensive documentation to support the design process. Throughout the execution phase, you will provide ongoing support to ensure the successful implementation of these designs. Additionally, you will integrate innovative and cost-effective design solutions that align with and contribute to the ongoing transformation of Queensland’s electricity system.

You will utilize advanced digital tools and technologies to improve accuracy and efficiency, driving innovation across all phases of the project. Additionally, you will contribute to fostering creativity and continuous improvement by offering fresh ideas to streamline project delivery and processes. You will ensure that all designs and drawings meet Aurecon’s high standards, as well as client information management and drafting requirements.

You will also collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, designing fit-for-purpose transmission lines to meet the diverse needs of our clients.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking candidates who hold a relevant degree or advanced diploma, associate degree or equivalent in electrical or civil engineering and/or have demonstrable experience in primary electrical design and civil infrastructure projects, with experience working with cross-discipline teams to deliver substation designs ranging from 11 kV to 500 kV, coupled with excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with diverse teams.

The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of current industry standards and design practices, along with experience in designing layouts and spatial positioning of plant and equipment in accordance with applicable standards. Additionally, experience in producing civil foundation and conduit plans is highly desirable.

Experience with MicroStation, or similar cad systems is required. Experience with 3D software is desired.

By joining Aurecon, you will have the opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of Queensland’s electrical infrastructure, while furthering your professional development in a dynamic and progressive environment.

At Aurecon, we appreciate the unique strengths each team member brings, and we encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply. If you’re passionate about energy, innovation, and making a real impact, we want to hear from you!
