The Youth Accommodation Support Services (YASS) provides support, assistance and accommodation for young people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. The service provides support to vulnerable young people by connecting them to school, work, vocational training, and other support services whilst assisting them to obtain long term housing.
This is a 24 hour service, therefore applicants must be available to work evening, overnight and also weekend shifts when required.
The Residential Youth Worker will provide holistic care and work within a Trauma Informed Practice model to support to young people living on site in crisis accommodation. To be successful you will need experience working within the youth sector in a residential setting.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Induct clients into the service and advise them of the requirement, and their rights and responsibilities
- Develop relationships with young people adhering to boundaries of care practice, endeavouring to understand and interpret their behaviour, thus influencing positive attitudinal and behavioural change
- Support young people to progress towards achieving their goals and develop living skills
- Maintain standards of conduct for the service to contribute to the program success
- Update case notes and use appropriate record keeping ensuring compliance in the program
- Monitor clients personal care and hygiene and provide guidance to improve life skills
- Collaborate with the team in the care and management of young people who exhibit challenging behaviour
- Facilitate educational groups and recreational activities
Requirements for Success
With a background in the Child, Youth & Family, Homelessness and/or Community Services sector, you will be confident working alone and, in a youth residential setting. Other requirements include:
- Relevant Youth Work or Community Services qualification – minimum certificate IV
- Prior relevant experience and sound understanding of issues facing youth and homelessness
- Demonstrated experience working with young people with high and complex needs
- You must be available for 8-hour shifts covering a 7-day roster (combination of night and day shifts)
- Demonstrated compliance with the Code of Ethics for Youth Workers in WA
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
- Be computer literate in Microsoft programs
- Must have First Aid Certificate.
- Must hold Full driver licence with no restrictions
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
