Program Context, Role & Focus

This position sits within the People & Corporate Services Team at Thorne Harbour Health, based out of the Hoddle Street office in Abbotsford. The People & Corporate Services division ensures the best contemporary standards are in place for employee relations, volunteer engagement, events management, occupational health and safety, governance, business services, and financial management, including budget development, audit, risk, probity and reporting activities, legislative compliance, facilities development and management, procurement, IT and human resource strategies across the organisation.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Management Accountant to join our People & Corporate Services team onsite at our Abbotsford office. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, this is six (6) month, fixed-term part-time contract role (22.6 hours per week) and will play a key role in financial management, reporting, and compliance.

As a Management Accountant , you will:

• Support the preparation of annual budgets, re-forecasts, and financial acquittals.

• Assist with year-end processes, including audits and statutory account reviews.

• Manage month-end close processes, including reconciliations and management reporting.

• Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and financial regulations.

• Provide value-added financial insights to support decision-making across the organisation.

• Continuously review and improve financial systems and processes.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with year-end processes, such as statutory account adjustments, audits, and reviewing statutory accounts.

• Supporting the preparation and review of annual budgets and re-forecasts.

• Performing month-end close processes including balance sheet reconciliations and distribution of management reports to ensure timely completion.

• Preparation of financial acquittal reports.

• Offering value-added support to organisational managers.

• Ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, regulations, and reporting requirements.

• Continuously reviewing and improving systems.

• Undertaking other duties and projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA or CA certification.

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or charitable organisation.

Skills and Experience

• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, reporting, and compliance.

• Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

• Experience using integrated general ledger and payroll software (e.g., MYOB Advanced).

• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical/problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.

• A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• A commitment to working within an LGBTIQ+ affirmative organisation and making a meaningful impact.
