The key duties of the position include
The Role
As the APS 6 - Product Manager (PM), you will:
  • Act as a Maintenance Activity Governance Role and vessel maintenance subject matter expert within the RMC-NE accountable for key milestones through the vessel maintenance activity.
  • Be expected to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide governance and assurance of the RMC-NE Technical Support Network to ensure vessel compliance with relevant classification and safety requirements and assist in ensuring the delivery of high quality services and maritime products to the PbS.
  • Be accountable for the accurate completion of work within agreed schedules and requirements of product management plans to ensure that product management requirements are fully considered, costed and documented.

About our Team
In response to the Australian Government developing a nationwide naval shipbuilding enterprise the MSM is being implemented to realise Plan Galileo; Maritime System Division's national, long term approach to sustainment of the naval fleet.
The RMC-NE is located in Tropical North Queensland, Cairns and will provide capability support to the Royal Australian Navy from the Cairns maritime precinct. The focus of this organisation will be on enhanced collaboration, co-ordination, workforce development and expansion to build the capability and capacity needed to meet increasing ship maintenance demands.

You can access a variety of flexible working arrangements, occasionally working from home and working hours that are not always nine to five.
Our Ideal Candidate
As a PM within the RMC-NE team, you will work in a dynamic and diverse environment requiring a number of key competencies:
  • Analysis: You will be adept in reviewing and analysing maritime technical information, consulting resources and documentation for clarity, make judgements and have the ability to think objectively and systematically.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Your ability to effectively communicate, build and sustain relationships and manage stakeholder engagement will be a key strength and critical to your success in the role.
  • Writing and reporting: You will be someone who can write clearly, succinctly and correctly, structuring information and convincing through writing. Your strong ability in analysing, synthesising and presenting technical information and data in a clear and concise manner, will aid key decision making.
  • Risk Management: Investigate and identify product management risks and issues and take the initiative to provide solutions.
  • Apply expertise and technology: We are looking for people who can apply, develop & share their specialist and detailed maritime technical expertise, whilst also understanding other associated disciplines and how they relate to one another in the context of maritime sustainment and maintenance.
  • Learning and Research: Ability to learn rapidly, gather and understand information quickly, and ensure an organisational learning approach.
  • Following Instructions and procedures: Working within the Defence environment, you will be someone who can follow procedures and instructions, showing a commitment to compliance with safety, policy and legislative requirements. You will have high attention to detail, along with a strong sense of self-management, the ability to manage tasks and prioritise appropriately.
  • Contract Management: Translate, apply and implement the administrative, operational, contract management, technical and resource requirements for complex product management activities.
  • Supervision and Mentoring: Supervise a small team and be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows.
