The Role:

The Medical Scientist:

  • Primarily works within the Core Laboratory which provides a 24-hours, 7 days a week diagnostic service in Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Bank.
  • Works across all areas of this multidisciplinary laboratory, and acts as a sole scientist on the out of hours roster and participates in the emergency on call roster.

Duties:

  • Perform the analyses of clinical samples required for the provision of routine and out of hours service.
  • Perform routine and specialised tests in the area of Pathology testing with accurate documentation of results and reports.
  • Follow guidelines in reporting results, including telephoning urgent and critical results.
  • Assist in the maintenance of procedures, equipment, quality control and supplies of consumables to ensure an uninterrupted service as far as possible.

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and The Department of Pathology within the RHH is the tertiary referral centre for many specialised testing services. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $77,737 - $111,364 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Satisfactory completion of an appropriate allied health professional course of study at a recognised tertiary institution and registered with the relevant Board or, in the case of unregulated professions, eligible for membership of the relevant professional association.
