Have you got experience advising across a wide range of commercial legal topics such as supply of goods and services, supply chains (including manufacturing, logistics, and distribution), procurement, outsourcing, ESG and ethical trading (including modern slavery, anti-bribery and environmental laws ), agency, distribution, franchising , advertising and marketing and general contract and tort law?
We have an exclusive opening to join the team of high-calibre lawyer writers at Practical Law Australia. We are seeking an expert senior lawyer who values a flexible role, a supportive team and a competitive salary and benefits.
This role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Senior Lawyer Writer, Commercial, you will:

Plan, research, write, edit and maintain premium quality commercial and contract law know-how resources including practice notes, standard documents, checklists and drafting notes for lawyers.

Keep up to date with commercial law topics and monitor legal, practice and market developments relevant to lawyers in both in-house and private practice environments.

Support internal peer review processes to ensure content is legally correct, kept continuously updated and maintained to reflect all relevant legal developments and reflect current market practice.

Meet with external customers, industry and sector experts to build and maintain a superior understanding of commercial law and related developments to ensure relevant and premium quality content is delivered that anticipates, meets and exceeds customer needs.

Provide legal expertise in responding to queries from external customers about commercial and contract law and practice.

Assist in the planning, development and publication of commissioned content authored by commercial lawyers from private practice and in-house legal teams.
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Senior Lawyer Writer, Commercial, if you:
-
Are admitted to practise as a lawyer in Australia, with 5 years+ PQE experience working as a commercial lawyer, most recently in an in-house role or a top/mid-tier private practice.

Have an in-depth understanding of contract law.

Have experience in and knowledge of some, not necessarily all, of the following areas: supply of goods and services, supply chains (including manufacturing, logistics, and distribution), procurement, agency, distribution, outsourcing, ESG and ethical trading (including modern slavery, anti-bribery and environmental laws), advertising and marketing (including sponsorship, events and trade promotions ) and tort law. Experience in intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyright, domain names and general IP, will also be advantageous.

Have a genuine and demonstrable interest in commercial law, and in helping to re-invent the way legal know-how works.

Bonus points if you have done any of the following: published articles in prior roles, built a professional presence on LinkedIn, or engaged with new methods of providing content, e.g., podcasts, social media, video content etc.

Have a demonstrable interest and ability in writing with excellent attention to detail.

Have the ability to work independently and communicate effectively with your manager and the rest of the Practical Law team.

Have a proactive, “get it done” mindset, always looking for solutions and are not shy about pursuing them.

Have a positive attitude, and are team-orientated, flexible, and analytical.
