  • Salary relative to experience and ranges from $67,204 to $98,096 + super


The role
This role is all about combining technical expertise with a passion for plant biodiversity and conservation. Working hands-on in the lab and field, you’ll ensure samples are accurately processed, documented, and stored, all while upholding quality and safety standards. While supporting all major activities within ReCER, your focus will be on providing support and assistance to our flagship project, Restore and Renew where we apply empirical genomic and ecological data to inform restorations strategies. You'll also plan and lead fieldwork to collect plant material for DNA studies and herbarium specimens from diverse environments across NSW.
You'll face exciting challenges, like managing seasonal workloads, navigating remote locations, and staying up-to-date with technical laboratory developments. Collaborating with government agencies and landowners, your work will play a key role in advancing plant conservation research and biodiversity knowledge.

What you will bring to the role

  • Practical experience collecting and processing plant material for DNA studies, seed banking, and herbarium specimens in diverse and often challenging natural environments.
  • The ability to coordinate work on DNA sequencing of region(s) in accordance with current ReCER procedures and techniques.
  • Expertise in scientific data collection, analysis, and management, with the ability to maintain accurate records and contribute to research projects.
  • Ability to record, collate and undertake preliminary statistical analysis of data generated by experiments; maintain databases with accurate and up to date research information.
  • A proactive approach to planning and conducting lab work and fieldwork, ensuring safety and quality standards are met while working independently or within a team.
  • A passion for plant conservation, coupled with excellent communication skills to engage with stakeholders and contribute to the delivery of impactful research outcomes.


What is an essential requirement:

  • Relevant qualification in Biological Sciences.
  • Current driver licence
