About you

Ideally, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Highly developed critical thinking, influencing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Expertise in Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations to drive compliance and to provide advice to external stakeholders.
  • A degree of knowledge and expertise in relation to psychosocial health & safety which is utilised to provide an effective response to high-risk issues/problems and/or provide coaching and on-the-job development for field officers in relation to subject matter expertise.
  • Ability to liaise with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders in a variety of situations; including with individuals who have experienced psychosocial hazards within the workplace.
  • The ability to assess and evaluate situations efficiently to make timely decisions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, interpret, and apply legislation or technical standards in a regulatory capacity
  • A systems-thinking approach through experience and/or application
  • Proficient in computer systems and technology
  • Qualifications in OHS or relevant industry/safety experience is desirable; and qualifications in Organisational Psychology will be viewed favourably
  • Hold a current Victorian Driver's Licence with no restrictions

Recruitment & training process
Below are indicative dates for each recruitment stage. Specific dates will be provided to applicants as they progress:

  • Applications(online): Closes 11:00pm on Monday 7th April
  • Video Interviews & Cognitive Assessments(online): Mid-late Apr
  • Psychometric Assessments(online): May
  • Panel Interviews(in person): June
  • Police, Reference & Medical Checks(in person): June/July
  • Offers & Contracts(online): July/Aug
  • Employment/Induction Start Date(in person): Late Aug/Early Sept
  • Induction End Date(in person): 13 weeks after commencement

If applicants wish to be considered for multiple roles, individual applications should be submitted for each separate role / location of interest.

Information sessions
We are hosting virtual information sessions to help you learn more about our organisation, culture, different inspector roles, and our recruitment and training processes. These sessions are optional and do not form part of your application. Available dates:

Tuesday 1st April (5:30pm)
Thursday 3rd April (12:30pm)

Eligibility requirements

  • Only applications submitted via the WorkSafe Victoria Careers website will be considered
  • Applicants must hold a valid, unrestricted Victorian Drivers Licence, or be eligible to obtain one
  • Applicants must ensure their availability for all recruitment activities and induction training dates set by WorkSafe, as individual leave requests may not be able to be accommodated. Induction is scheduled for 3 days at our Essendon Fields office and 2 days at your local office each week for the full 13 week period. Successful applicants will also be required to enrol in a Diploma of Government.
  • Preferred candidates must successfully complete a National Criminal History Check, Reference Checks, and Medical Checks. Given the physical demands of this role, we must ensure you can perform the required duties safely.
  • Eligibility for ongoing employment with WorkSafe requires Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
