We are seeking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Specialist to design a contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment program for our Diversity and Inclusion Department.

This is a Full Time, Fixed Term (12-months) position. While WFH/Hybrid options are available, it is essential that the successful applicant maintains a presence at Doncaster in line with our hybrid working model.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Lead Diversity & Inclusion, responsibilities of this position include, but not limited to:

  • Design an effective and sustainable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment program and activities to support reconciliation
  • Develop and implement evidence-based strategies to improve cultural safety, equity, and transparency for employees
  • Drive the successful development of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment program, using relevant project methodologies to meet time, budget, compliance, and quality goals in alignment with project documentation
  • Conduct research and provide guidance on creating, managing, and promoting new practices, policies, and procedures that align with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander values
  • Provide expert guidance to stakeholders on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural matters, policies, and legislation affecting the Victorian Aboriginal community, while offering cultural knowledge and expertise to evaluate and enhance impactful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment programs

About you

To be considered for this position you will possess a tertiary degree or relevant industry certification (or progress toward) with high level relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and sound experience, relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment programs:

  • Expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment initiatives, with the ability to engage respectfully with community groups and stakeholders, responding to their unique cultural needs
  • Strong communication skills and proven capacity to build trusting, meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and communities
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in employment program projects and workforce strategies, particularly gained through exposure to cultural diversity initiatives, development and retention
  • Demonstrated ability to engage senior leadership to provide influence of best practice solutions to attract, retain and develop Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Developed written communication skills, including an ability to prepare high quality businesses cases, papers, and reports for a variety of audiences
  • Comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal culture, society, and the challenges impacting Victorian Aboriginal communities
