About the opportunity
The Broken Hill Rural Clinical School (RCS), also known as the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (UDRH), is funded under the Commonwealth Department of Health’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.
Our focus at the BHUDRH, is to lead the design and delivery of innovative teaching and learning environments for medical, nursing and allied health students undertaking their placement in our region. We also actively work to improve the quality of health care for rural, remote and First Nations Peoples by fostering local and regional collaborations and enhancing national expertise in rural and remote health research and the translation of research into policy and practice.
Our team is distributed across the far west, north and south western regions of New South Wales. We are committed to providing the best educational experiences and supporting pertinent research in order to support the growth and development of rural Australia.
We are seeking a Senior Lecturer – First Nations Lead. This is an important role supporting the Head of Rural Clinical School by leading the strategic direction of the First Nations portfolio across the department’s geographically distributed campuses located in Bourke, Broken Hill and the Dareton/Wentworth region. The position will provide carriage for the delivery of high-quality multi-disciplinary learning and teaching across the First Nations Programs.
You will also assist the Head of the RCS and Senior Leadership Team in fostering collaborative cross-sector First Nations community and organisational relationships ensuring that all all interactions and engagements with First Nations communities are conducted with authenticity and sensitivity.
Your key responsibilities will be to:

support the HoRCS by leading the strategic direction of the First Nations portfolio, ensuring alignment with broader organisational goals while prioritising cultural integrity and meaningful community engagement

drive initiatives focused on enhancing cultural awareness, fostering respect, and promoting inclusive practices that honour First Nations traditions and values across all organisational levels
-
design and implement culturally respectful protocols to set benchmarks for best practices in all interactions and engagements with First Nations communities and entities
-
develop and strengthen partnerships with external First Nations agencies and collaborations
-
providing informed advice and insights to senior leadership on cultural engagement strategies, ensuring that decisions reflect a deep understanding of First Nations issues, needs, and aspirations
-
advocate for and advance First Nations research and the protection of knowledge sovereignty, ensuring Indigenous knowledge systems are respected, preserved, and integrated in research practices
-
undertake a leadership role in First Nations educational innovation, curriculum design and review, contributing to outstanding educational delivery and outcomes for the portfolio.

engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet community and the University’s expectations and standards for education

design and deliver quality educational experiences that support student needs, meet curriculum requirements for the First Nations portfolio and community expectations

build and maintain a national reputation for excellence in First Nations scholarship through professionally relevant research and publication.
About you
-
Doctorate or PhD or equivalent experience in rural and First Nations health
-
current registration or equivalent in a health discipline
-
demonstrated understanding of rural, remote and First Nations health
-
deep understanding of First Nations cultural engagement issues, needs, and aspirations
-
regionally and/or nationally recognised for First Nations leadership and commitment to research
-
experience in supervising and mentoring others
-
a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, community partners and stakeholders in First Nations research and teaching
-
demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning First Nations initiatives
