This is a part-time position, working 26 hours per fortnight.

As a Pastoral Carer you will provide meaningful pastoral care services as part of Southern Cross Care's "Person centred approach" to care.
Pastoral Care is a role that lies at the heart of a holistic approach to healing and wellbeing which encompasses the physical, emotional, psychological, cultural, social and spiritual needs of each person. Pastoral Care is an essential aspect of a person’s emotional wellbeing that embraces self-determination, self-esteem, satisfaction, a sense of identity and belonging and having a purpose in life
The Pastoral Care service is unique for every client, with their individual spiritual and pastoral requirements identified in an initial personalised assessment.
What are the key responsibilities?
Your role may include but not be limited to:
- Providing emotional, spiritual and pastoral support to residents through regular visits irrespective of a resident’s religious beliefs or world view
- Collaborating with all staff in the provision of holistic care
- Participating in and organise if required, ecumenical services, memorial services and other relevant ceremonies as the need arises
- Consulting with and supporting residents, families, relatives and/or representatives in times of specific need
- Ensuring Spiritual/Pastoral planning, assessment, documentation and reporting is completed to a high standard
- Certificate or Diploma from an accredited Pastoral Care Academy (desirable)
- Previous experience working in a similar spiritual and pastoral care role
- Experience working in an aged care environment (desirable)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills demonstrating empathy and compassion with vulnerable and elderly people
- Ability to maintain documentation accurately and appropriately observing confidentiality where required
