Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology Research & Integration: Lead efforts to research and identify new technologies that align with customer needs and improve production efficiency. Develop and drive the integration of new technologies into products and systems, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Technology Roadmap: Drive the development and execution of a technology roadmap for future product advancements, leveraging existing technologies and meeting industry trends.
  • Standards Development: Collaborate with the Head of Engineering to establish and implement new standards, processes, and specifications to ensure high-quality design and production.
  • Project Engineering Leadership: Oversee complex engineering projects, ensuring designs meet industry best practices, safety requirements, and customer specifications. Manage product design transitions into production, including developing material specifications and test plans.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Manage all engineering documentation, ensuring that designs, user requirements, and testing procedures comply with relevant standards and are properly version-controlled.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct independent quality checks on engineering designs to ensure they meet customer requirements and relevant standards.
  • Technology Innovation: Lead research and experimentation with emerging technologies, including battery storage, solar systems, and hybrid power solutions, to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Prototype Development: Oversee proof-of-concept and prototype work to evaluate new technologies for integration into products.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including product management, to ensure new technologies align with business needs and customer expectations. Advocate for new technology solutions and communicate their benefits across teams.
  • Project Oversight: Lead planning, development, and successful implementation of new technology projects. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet customer specifications.
  • Resource & Risk Management: Efficiently allocate resources and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Customer Focus: Ensure engineering solutions meet customer needs, regularly engage with stakeholders to provide updates on project progress, and mitigate risks.
  • Team Development: Lead a small team of engineers and designers, fostering high performance through mentoring, skills development, and performance management.
  • Work Allocation: Forecast and prioritize workloads, hiring additional engineers as required to address skills gaps and business growth.
  • Cross-functional Support: Participate in the achievement of business strategy through involvement in special initiatives and programs.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including health, safety, and security regulations.

Requirements:



  • Qualifications & Experience
    • Tertiary degree in Engineering (electronic/electrical, structural, civil, and/or mechanical engineering).
    • 10+ years of experience in design, engineering, and delivering complex telecommunications infrastructure projects.
    • Experience with telecommunication and power system infrastructures.
    • Experience in end-to-end product architecture, design, and construction/manufacturing (desirable).


  • Leadership & People Management
    • Proven leadership skills with experience leading and mentoring a small team (4-8 engineers and CAD designers).
    • Team-oriented with a track record of creating high-performing teams.
    • Experience in developing skills development plans and managing performance.


  • Technology Integration & Innovation
    • Ability to assess technological trends and integrate new technologies into products.
    • Experience researching and identifying emerging technologies such as Stand Alone Power Systems, Battery Energy Storage, Solar Diesel Hybrid Systems.
    • Experience in R&D initiatives and managing proof-of-concept and prototype work.


  • Project Management
    • Experience in planning, leading, and delivering complex engineering projects.
    • Proven ability in resource management and ensuring cost control and timely delivery.
    • Strong risk management skills throughout project lifecycles.
    • Attention to detail and continuous improvement in project delivery.


  • Technical Design & Quality Assurance
    • Skill in designing and checking complex engineering systems to meet industry standards.
    • Experience developing and implementing standards and procedures.
    • Expertise in developing technical documentation such as system requirements and testing procedures.


  • Communication & Stakeholder Management
    • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Proven ability to build relationships with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
    • Strong negotiation skills for managing variations and project deliverables.


  • Industry Knowledge & Standards
    • Experience with AS/NZ Standards for telecommunications and power system infrastructures.
    • Knowledge of systems thinking and how different parts of the system work together.


  • Desirable Additional Criteria
    • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or similar professional accreditation.
    • Experience in industries like transport, mining, utilities, and emergency services.
    • Experience with Control Systems and/or Automation.
