About the branch
The Public Law and Planning branch operates in the epicentre of public law practice in Victoria. The branch consists of three legal teams;
* The Human Rights team, whose practice focuses on human rights under Victoria's Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006.
* The Land Acquisition, Planning and Environment team whose practice spans advice and litigation on subject areas like planning and built heritage and land acquisition and compensation.
* The Constitution and Advice team, also with both advice work and litigation, on work such as Federal and State constitutional law and Treaty, and judicial review proceedings.
About the role
Reporting to the Assistant Victorian Government Solicitor (AVGS) of the PuLP Branch, you'll play a pivotal role in leading and managing our talented legal support team. You will also support the AVGS day to day with administrative branch needs and ad hoc enquiries. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual whose responsibilities will include:
* Team Leadership: Lead and mentor legal support staff, ensuring smooth workload allocations, effective performance management, and strong team collaboration including assisting with recruitment processes and inducting new staff.
* Operational Excellence: Be a key driver in ensuring branch processes are streamlined, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and providing administrative support to the AVGS (Executive) and solicitors within the branch.
* Efficient Delivery: Administer and manage reporting and ensure that branch processes run smoothly and efficiently.
Desirable skills and experience
* Extensive Legal Support Experience: Proven experience providing administrative support to solicitors, ideally in a legal environment.
* Team Management: A natural leader who has ability to and/or experience in managing and motivating a high-performing team.
* Exceptional Time Management: The ability to prioritise, meet tight deadlines, and solve complex problems with ease.
* Outstanding Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong working relationships and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels.
