About the Role

Port Pirie Hospital is based within the Yorke and Northern Local Health Network, 228km from the Adelaide CBD. The Yorke and Northern region encompasses the Yorke Peninsula, significant areas of Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent, Southern Flinders Ranges, and the Mid North.

The Yorke Peninsula offers stunning beaches and friendly local towns. It is one of South Australia's most accessible seaside escape locations with breathtaking coastlines and national parks. It is a place to experience fresh seafood from local providers and find plenty of bakeries, craft breweries and distilleries. Walking trials, diving, surfing and cycling are just some of the recreational activities the Yorke Peninsula has to offer.

The Mid North region is renowned for its wonderful rural panoramas and unique townships. It is South Australia's gateway to the outback and Southern Flinders Ranges. The area is made up of dramatic landscapes and native wildlife.

Locals and visitors have an abundance of activities, including outback camping, four-wheel driving, cycling and surfing. Clare Valley sits within this region and offers some of South Australia's best wines with ample cellar doors to explore.

The Yorke and Northern pharmacy team provide services to the Port Pirie Hospital, as well as outreach pharmacy services to the fifteen other sites within the local health network. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacist to provide high-quality, comprehensive, and cost-effective pharmacy services for both inpatients and outpatients. In this role, you will play a vital part in optimising drug therapy and medication management, ensuring patients receive safe and effective treatment. You will provide expert drug and therapeutic advice to medical, nursing, and allied health professionals, in line with hospital policies, SA Health guidelines, and State and Federal legislation.

As part of a collaborative healthcare team, you will contribute to a range of clinical, dispensing, production, and counselling services, supporting best practices in medication use. You will also work closely with professional and non-professional staff to enhance patient care and improve overall health outcomes. This position would be ideal for all levels of experience, including early career and community Pharmacist applicants. The pharmacy team throughout Yorke and Northern is incredibly welcoming and supportive, which has created a great environment for staff to develop and grow as health professionals. Whilst this position is preferred to be based in Port Pirie, the successful applicant could work from other sites in the Yorke and Northern including Wallaroo and Clare to support pharmacy services throughout the local health network.

About you

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Pharmacist who is passionate about delivering high-quality pharmacy services in a hospital or community setting. To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Strong Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Excellent written and verbal communication, public relations skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team while also taking initiative when working independently.

  • Technical Expertise & Organisational Skills - Strong technical and manipulative skills , with a high level of attention to detail, accuracy, and organisation in dispensing, medication management, and patient counselling.

  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Legislation & Best Practices - A solid understanding of clinical pharmacy practice, drug dispensing, pharmacy production, patient counselling, and medicines information in line with relevant Pharmacy Acts and legislation .

  • Experience & Adaptability - Completion of pre-registration training in a hospital or community setting, with the flexibility, resilience, and ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
