About the role:

As the Emergency Department Clerk, you will assist with the provision of professional high quality clerical service within the Emergency Department at Flinders Medical Centre. The key objective is to effectively coordinate the registration of all patients attending the department and arrange admission/facilitate discharge where necessary.

The Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) Emergency Department (ED) is open 24 hours, seven days a week and as such you will work on a 24/7 roster.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Maintain SA Health information systems by ensuring accurate and timely data entry by registering patients, admitting/transferring and discharging patients, updating patient demographics and identifying the patient's financial classification eg, private health insurance, workers' compensation, DVA, motor vehicle accident, overseas patients.
  • Ensuring all documentation is accurate and completed in a professional and timely manner and is in accordance with any organisational and/or legislative requirements where applicable
  • Greeting patients and/or their relatives professionally and courteously while remaining calm and empathetic ensuring that patient care and safety is the priority and focus.
  • Maintaining confidentiality on all issues relating to the organisation, the patients, and fellow colleagues

About you:

  • The ability to effectively manage interactions with the public, especially when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Must be empathetic, understanding, and able to offer support to those in distress or facing challenging circumstances.
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally with various individuals, such as patients, families, medical staff, ambulance officers, and police officers.
  • Able to ensure that important information is conveyed accurately and efficiently, especially in high-stress situations.
  • Experience dealing with diverse situations and people, ensuring smooth and respectful communication.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality in fostering trust and maintaining professionalism.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Understand that healthcare or emergency services require round-the-clock staffing to meet the needs of the public.
