About the UnitThe Yara Pilbara Fertilisers' plant is one of the largest ammonia production sites in the world and we have also taken the ammonia process further downstream with the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) plant, a joint venture with Orica. Together with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara will also build a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia.

Responsibilities
Looking for an exciting new challenge? Yara are seeking applications for their 12 month fixed-term role of Laboratory Technician. Reporting to the Laboratory Superintendent, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting Ammonia and Ammonium Nitrate plants by providing analysis during plant start up, shut down, maintenance and day to day operational activities. Analysis of routine and non-routine samples in order to report on and monitor plant status by adhering to published procedures and standards for the achievement of required quality.
The primary responsibilities include:
Complete assigned work in any of the following areas including (but not limited to):
• Sample preparation and collection
• Digest
• UV/Vis
• Bench Chemistry (Wet Chemistry, titrations, pH, Conductivity, Ion Chromatography, ICP, TOC, TKN Leco, GC and IR)
Each of these areas has defined tasks, which includes, but is not limited to:
• Preparation of sub-samples to ensure they are representative of the submitted sample;
• Selection and use of sampling equipment and conditions to preserve sample integrity during collection and storage;
• Identification of stock discrepancies and maintenance of stocks at prescribed levels;
• Interpretation and / or calculation of results; and
• Reporting of results.

Required:
• Cert IV in Laboratory Practices or equivalent. Senior First Aid Certificate desirable
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in analytical laboratories, preferably with exposure to the following instruments / areas:
• ICP-OES
• UV-Vis,
• Carbon, sulphur and nitrogen analysis,
• Gas Chromatographs and gas analysis,
• Sample Preparation,
• ISE Analysis,
• General Wet Chemistry Procedures; titrations, gravimetric and potentiometric analysis
• Chemical plant operation, particularly laboratory equipment and processes for ammonia and ammonium nitrate production.
• Modern safety, environmental and laboratory management practices.
• Familiar with environmental standards and practices for the chemical industry.
• Familiar with Dangerous Goods Legislation, including storage and handling of hazardous materials. Knowledge of modern laboratory practices, including use of laboratory equipment and analysis techniques. Cost management skills desirable. Proficient in use of Microsoft office. Competent in instrumental analysis methods and general laboratory practices. Ability to work independently and also in a team.
• Fluent English (verbal and written) is essential.
• Australian/New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency. Temporary work visa holders are not eligible for this role.
