Description:
JS Careers is exclusively partnering with a leading Australian insurance firm with the appointment of their General Counsel . Based in Sydney, this position will be responsible for leading the legal and compliance function and play a pivotal role for managing all corporate and commercial legal matters for the firm.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide legal advice to the senior leadership team and business stakeholders across all lines of business.
- Advise the organisation on its legal and regulatory obligations for existing business activities and potential new products and services, identifying solutions to mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
- Lead the function responsible for negotiating, drafting, and finalising commercial contracts, vendor agreements, and other commercial arrangements.
- Lead the second line compliance team, which involves providing support across corporate functions of the Australian business and providing advice on broader regulatory obligations impacting the business.
- Liaise and engage external counsel where appropriate.
Required experience and qualifications:
- At least 10 + years of experience as a corporate lawyer operating in the insurance industry.
- Excellent knowledge of the regulatory landscape pertaining to insurance in Australia, with preference given to an additional broader financial services background;
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to be able to operate at a strategic level, as well as enthusiasm to be involved in day-to-day matters;
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to be able to interact effectively at all levels within the organisation;
- Comfortable working in an environment that is entrepreneurial, and fast-paced;
- Strong ability to be able to prioritise and manage multiple demands and projects.
