The Role
Are you an experienced reporter with a strong interest in rural and primary industries keen to work in far north Queensland? Do you enjoy producing unique and compelling multi-platform content that engages local and national audiences?
We are looking for a Rural Reporter to join our team of specialist journalists telling the stories of rural Australia based in Cairns. You will work under the general direction of the Editor and Rural Lead, hitting the road to capture the unique voices and industries of the far north.
The Job
Prepare and present rural and primary industry content for the Rural Report and Country Hour.
Identify, develop and produce local, statewide and national news and content for video, web and app as well as social media.
In collaboration with colleagues, identify and develop content that can be shared with other content teams across the ABC on multiple platforms.
Contribute to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan.

About You
We are seeking a motivated Reporter with tertiary qualifications in Agriculture or Journalism or demonstrated equivalent skills, knowledge, and experience in primary industries. You will have a sound understanding of rural and regional issues that affect and interest the local audience.
You'll have:
Accomplished editorial skills including the ability to source and analyse information and exercise sound judgement.
Demonstrated creative approach to content construction and delivery for radio and digital platforms, and accomplished experience in live presentation and broadcast.
Sound understanding of rural and resources journalism and an in-depth understanding of rural, resources and regional issues, as well as national and international rural issues.
Experienced in creating authentic content that represents the broad diversity of the Australian community.
Able to travel to remote locations when required.
Possession of a current and valid Driver’s Licence
