Turning Point
Turning Point is Australia's only alcohol and other drug centre with almost 3 decades of dedicated clinical, workforce development and research pillars. The clinical services arm of Turning Point includes clinics based at its central Richmond site and its Box Hill service that also provides clinical care and support to Eastern Health patients as well as those across Victoria. Turning Point's Richmond based central Statewide Clinical Services includes a large telephone and online service centre supporting alcohol, drugs and gambling disorders, a research centre and a statewide clinic. The Richmond site also houses the Hamilton Centre, Victoria's centre for integrated care of addiction and mental health disorders, that opened two years ago. Our Box Hill site includes a multidisciplinary team of counsellors, specialist nurses, and other clinical staff and is also the site of the Eastern arm of the Hamilton Centre. This broad clinical service and suites of services offer a client journey to recovery that includes a network of staff lived experience workers.
About the role
Eligible medical practitioners are invited to apply for this registrar position towards Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine. This is an accredited role with Turning Point and can provide all required curriculum clinical experiences for this post vocational qualification. Applicants who are interested in obtaining specialist qualifications in addiction medicine need Fellowship in one of the approved Colleges that are a prerequisite to FAChAM training, including RACGP, ACCRM, RANZCP, or completion of RACP Basic Physician Training. If that is you, this is an opportunity to work within a sector leader in addiction training.
The position commences in August (semester 2) of the 2025 trainee year, and is full time, initially as a 6 month contract. Trainee experiences will include inpatient and community detoxification, ambulatory clinics in pharmacotherapy of opioid and other drug use disorders, hospital consultation liaison and attendance at pain medicine clinics. There is also opportunity for research, training of peers and involvement in clinical quality projects, all as part of a dynamic, welcoming multidisciplinary team.
About you
What you will need to apply for this role:
To be successful in your application you will be:
• an AHPRA registered medical practitioner with the prerequisite qualification or training as defined by the RACP for Chapter Fellowship training
• Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work with a passionate dedicated clinical team
• An interest in helping a broad population of patients
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
