- Salary commencing at $44.26 per hour (inclusive of 25% casual loading) plus 11.5% superannuation (commensurate with experience)
Men’s Shed Program
The Men’s Shed Program aims to improve men’s health and wellbeing, by encouraging peer support. It is a place for men of all ages to get together and share their skills and knowledge with each other while completing woodwork, metal work, up-cycling, creative art and restoration projects. The Men’s Shed incorporates an Up-Cycling program whereby goods salvaged and restored by the Men’s Shed are made available for sale to the wider community.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Men’s Shed Team Leader, you will work with a passionate team and support the program participants to achieve their goals, whilst ensuring their safety within work, health and safety guidelines. You will also have a focus on supporting the development of Council’s Men’s Shed and Up-Cycle Shop through collaboration, open communication and team work.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Providing clear instructions and support to participants and volunteers in completing endorsed projects;
- Delivering opportunities and programs that encourage participation by men that promotes health and wellness, life-long learning and social interaction;
- Maintaining effective relationships with the Men’s Shed program participants;
- Liaising with and assisting the Men’s Shed Program Facilitator in developing, evaluating, planning and renewing projects; and,
- Facilitating opportunities for participants to gain both technical and social skills which encouraging peer support.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum Certificate III in either Carpentry, Furniture Making, Cabinet Making, Metal Work or similar with demonstrated experience in woodwork;
- Experience in using a range of tools including hammers, screwdrivers, drills, compound mitre saws, electric planers, power tools;
- Good communication skills and a comprehensive understanding of Occupational Health and Safety, in order to support the Men’s Shed programs;
- An understanding of the issues faced by older adults and people with a disability, with a specific understanding of men’s health issues is desirable; and,
- Current Level 2 First Aid certificate.
