The Opportunity
Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Casual Gallery Technician to join the team at Incinerator Gallery. This role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic, creative environment supporting the planning, installation, and de-installation of exhibitions in one of the region's leading community art spaces. You will play a key role in ensuring exhibitions are professionally presented and that all gallery operations are conducted safely and efficiently. Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, preparation, installation, and de-installation of exhibitions, ensuring they are set up safely and professionally.
- Liaise with gallery staff and artists to develop timeframes and ensure installation requirements are met.
- Research, procure, and construct appropriate mounts, supports, and equipment for the safe installation of artworks.
- Provide support and supervision to artists and contractors during the installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies to provide a safe working environment for all stakeholders.
- In consultation with permanent gallery staff, plan the appropriate lighting requirements for exhibitions and artworks
- Maintain clean and safe storage of the City’s art collection, exhibition equipment, tools and support materials.
- Research, identify and procure necessary equipment, installation aids and supports in consultation and under direction of permanent gallery staff.
- Ensure that venue equipment is set-up, used and packed down as per Moonee Valley City Council safe working policies and procedures.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in exhibition installation, including proficiency in using technical equipment, lighting, and display tools. A strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements for art installations and manual handling procedures is essential. The successful candidate will also have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively with artists, contractors, and other stakeholders. Experience working with community arts groups and an understanding of facilities management, particularly in arts venues, would be highly valued.
