Assistant Farm Manager | Ruvigne

March Talent Partners
Gunnedah Full-day Full-time

Description:

Your Next Employer
We’ve partnered with an agribusiness that's blending tradition with innovation in the pursuit of growing the highest quality irrigated and dryland cotton.
This flagship property, Ruvigne, needs no introduction. Located only 5km east of Gunnedah, this world-class property stretches across 2,658ha with 14km Mooki River frontage. At its core is 854ha of state-of-the-art flood irrigation, backed by 4,000ML of water storage. With a distinct reputation for efficiency and high-performance cropping, this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to join a well-established and results-driven operation - where operational excellence takes priority.
The Role
You will be working closely with a highly experienced and down-to-earth Farm Manager, while playing a strategic part in Ruvigne’s operations. You’ll be on the ground operating machinery, leading and mentoring a talented team, and ensuring irrigation and machinery are managed and maintained effectively. You’ll also collaborate with the team to improve efficiency and manage the day-to-day challenges of an irrigated cotton operation.
You won’t just be ticking boxes - this role requires foresight, initiative, and problem-solving. If you prefer to take ownership rather than wait for instructions, this could be the step up you’re looking for.
Key Responsibilities
  • Farm Operations: Play a key, hands-on role in optimising water use, spraying, sowing, maintenance and general cropping activities, across both cotton and dryland cropping operations - circa 450ha irrigation planted each session plus 450ha dryland.
  • Machinery Operations: Operate and maintain a range of new and seasoned farm machinery, ensuring servicing, maintenance, and operational readiness.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship and support to the established farming team.
  • Contractor & Supplier Coordination: Liaise with external contractors and suppliers to maintain efficient farm operations.
  • Proactive Decision-Making: Work closely with the Farm Manager to identify and implement improvements to farm processes.
What You Bring
We’re open to candidates from various backgrounds - whether you’re a Senior Farm Hand ready to step up or a 2IC looking for more autonomy. What matters most is your experience in and ability to:
  • Manage irrigated farming operations, particularly flood irrigation systems - irrigation experience is essential.
  • Take a hands-on, practical approach to farm management.
  • Operate and maintain machinery.
  • Think critically and bring solutions to the table.
  • Lead and mentor farm staff, helping to develop the team and optimise workflow.
What You’ll Gain
  • Competitive Package (~$150k+): $85k - $90k + Super + housing* + overtime (OT hours over 38pw are paid at equivalent salaried hourly rate) + work ute. Up to circa $155k pkg - depending on experience.
  • *Housing: Housing allowance will be paid in addition to salary to cover rent until a house on-farm is available (and renovated). The timeline for this is roughly 14-24 months.
  • Mentorship & Career Development: Gain invaluable experience working alongside an accomplished and down-to-earth Farm Manager with a great reputation.
  • Renowned Property: Join an influential operation with modern irrigation infrastructure and good water security.
  • Location & Lifestyle: Located just 5km from Gunnedah.
  • Development Exposure: Plans to develop additional areas of the property for dryland cropping (24 months +).
