About the role

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Graduate Animal Welfare Officer to join our team and ensure the highest standards of animal welfare across all farm operations. Based out of our Newcastle hub, this entry-level role provides an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to develop their skills while making a positive impact on animal welfare. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with Australian animal welfare regulations, industry standards, and company policies. You will help support the well-being of our laying hens through training, continuous improvement initiatives, and adherence to frameworks such as the Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals – Domestic Poultry, the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines, ESA (Egg Standards Australia), and other relevant guidelines.

What you’ll do

  • Assist in ensuring operations comply with animal welfare legislation, industry standards (ESA, Pace), and customer requirements. Conducting regular welfare assessments across farm systems.
  • Monitor bird health, behaviour, and environment to identify risks and implement corrective actions for welfare incidents.
  • Develop and deliver welfare training for farm staff on best practices, humane euthanasia, and stress reduction techniques.
  • Coordinate internal audits and assist with external audits. Prepare reports, address non-compliances, and support corrective actions.
  • Maintain records of welfare inspections, audits, and corrective actions through the Safety Culture platform.
  • Stay updated on animal welfare science, regulations, and trends. Recommend improvements based on research and farm data.
  • Collaborate with farm managers, veterinarians, and compliance teams to maintain high welfare standards.
  • Assist in the management medication usage, ensure proper reporting, and maintain bird health.
  • Conduct refresher training and introduce new welfare guidelines to staff.
  • Implement corrective actions to address welfare concerns and improve outcomes across farm operations.

About You

Are you a recent graduate with a degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, or a related field, eager to work hands-on in the farming industry? If you’re passionate about animal welfare, have strong computer skills (including Excel), and are ready to learn and grow, we want you on our team.

Based out of our Newcastle hub, you’ll spend time on farms with the farming team, ensuring high welfare standards, conducting assessments, and collaborating with farm managers to improve practices. What We’re Looking For

  • A degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, or a related field
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, and the ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • A genuine passion for working with animals and being actively involved on the farm.
  • Strong work ethic, with a readiness to take on advice, learn from others, and engage hands-on in farm operations.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a data-driven mindset and the ability to generate insightful re-ports.
  • A willingness to learn, grow, and develop within the business, with a clear desire to progress through the company.
  • Excellent observational and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to welfare issues.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to get your hands dirty and contribute directly to daily farm tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for training and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in data collection, reporting, and documentation
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car.
