About Us:

Meals on Wheels Tasmania (MOWTAS) is a not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to supporting Tasmanians since 1955. With 15 branches statewide, we rely on a committed team of 50+ staff and over 750 volunteers to deliver more than 280,000 meals each year, helping people remain independent in their own homes.

About the Role:

As a Business Trainee, you will play an important role in supporting our finance and administration teams while gaining valuable experience in a professional office environment.

This is a full-time traineeship for the duration of the Certificate III course (1 – 2 years), with structured learning, training, and mentorship.

You will gain experience by:

  • Spending three days per week in the finance team, assisting with financial transactions and data entry.
  • Working one day per week in the business operations administration team, supporting general office administration, record keeping, and operational tasks.
  • Dedicating one day per week to formal learning through your training provider, ensuring you develop the theoretical knowledge needed to support your practical work.

This structured approach will provide you with a well-rounded understanding of finance, administration, and business operations, giving you the skills and confidence to grow in your career.

About you:

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, motivated, and ready to take the first step in their professional career. You do not need prior experience, just a positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a strong work ethic.

Selection criteria:

Essential

  • School leaver with an interest in finance or business administration
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Good communication skills and a professional attitude.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Understanding of basic financial concepts (e.g., invoices, receipts, payments).
  • Experience using office equipment such as printers and scanners.
