We are seeking a proactive and analytical Operations Accountant to join our Finance team at our corporate head office in Darra. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will work alongside a team of Management Accountants, each overseeing a dedicated client group within Cement Australia.
Based in Darra, this role involves supporting site teams across our cement grinding operations at Port Kembla and Port of Brisbane, as well as our alternative fuels business based in Melbourne. Your expertise in management accounting and analysis will provide valuable insights, enabling informed operational decision-making and driving performance. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide accounting support to the Accounting Manager and Site Operations.
Your Opportunity
Working with the Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Month end tasks including journals, general ledger reconciliations, P&L and balance sheet reporting etc.
- Preparation, development and delivery of management reporting by providing relevant and insightful analysis and commentary that drives improvement and performance.
- Preparation of monthly & quarterly JV Report Packs including Board Packs.
- Production of accurate and timely planning/forecasts including analysis and preparation of presentations for supported business units as well as reporting for Cement Australia while adhering to tight deadlines.
- Champion and encourage a strong cost control and budget ownership culture, ensuring budget owners clearly understand their commitments and provide them with regular monthly updates of performance against set targets.
- Work proactively with Site personnel and develop a thorough understanding of the Operations and how you can assist them with understanding financial information to facilitate decision making.
- Based from our Darra Corporate Head Office, you will be required to work at our Port of Brisbane site operations on a regular basis.
What You’ll Bring
- Relevant tertiary and CA/CPA qualifications
- Demonstrated Management Accounting experience. Cost Accounting advantageous.
- A self-starter, who is organised and works well with minimal hands-on supervision. Shows initiative.
- A curious nature with demonstrated experience contributing to successful business improvement programs.
- A desire for career progression and development.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate key messaging at all levels.
- Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated customer focus to deliver better outcomes.
- Intermediate Excel & sound ERP accounting experience. SAP advantageous
