The Role
The Joint Proof and Experimental Unit (JPEU) is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to take on the position of Vibration Team Lead at the Environmental Test Facility (ETF).
The Vibrations Team Leader works within the ETF supporting guided weapon and explosive ordnance (GWEO) test. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing Vibration and Shock environmental testing operations for guided weapons, explosives, and ordnance systems.
This role ensures compliance with Defence safety, quality, and technical standards while facilitating effective and efficient test outcomes. The incumbent works closely with technical experts, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to support test readiness and continuous improvement within the Vibration test domain, methodologies, and technologies.
They will contribute to budget planning and resource allocation activities related to Vibration environmental testing and provide guidance and training to junior staff and new team members to foster a culture of safety, technical proficiency, and continuous learning.
About our Team
The ETF conducts non-destructive test and evaluation trials on platforms explosives, munitions and other equipment across a range of environmental specialities. These specialities include climatic (simulated weather), radiographic (x-ray) and shock and vibration (shake and rattle).
The ETF supports guided weapon and explosive ordnance test and evaluation activities. The ETF has capabilities enabling the climatic, non-destructive, vibration and mechanical testing of items, and other elements for artificial aging of Defence explosive ordnance. The JPEU engineering team also provide direct support to the ETF.
Employment at Port Wakefield also currently attracts a Special Defence Locality Assistance allowance of $309.85 per fortnight.
Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will work with a diverse range of customers and be able to function in a small team within a dynamic and integrated environment of Australian Public Servants, Australian Defence Force personnel and Defence Industry Support Personnel.
They will have the ability to interpret customer requirements, technical standards, follow set work procedures, produce trial activity reports and utilise a variety of technical and non-technical equipment, in order to capture required data. They will have a keen eye for detail, and be able to identify potential issues within the data / test setup that may affect quality of data or accuracy of data for items being tested.
The successful candidate will be able to work on an explosive ordnance test range, assisting in the construction of test and evaluation platforms. They will be an excellent communicator, able to identify and initiate improvements to existing work procedures.
