About the Ngaanyatjarra Council
Welcome to Ngaanyatjarra Lands, a vibrant tapestry of culture and community nestled within the vast beauty of the Australian desert. Home to approximately 2000 Yarnangu (Ngaanyatjarra people) across 11 unique communities, our council is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our rich heritage spanning over 10,000 years and 250,000 square kilometres.
Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across the 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Employing in excess of 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres and land services. It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.

The Opportunity:
This position offers a chance to make a meaningful impact within vibrant remote communities based across the Ngaanyatjarra WA lands , contributing to its growth and sustainability. You will play a crucial role in shaping the store/roadhouse's future, setting new standards for operational excellence, and supporting the community’s development.
In addition, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with daily operations, including stocking shelves and ensuring products are displayed attractively.
- Engaging with community members and providing excellent customer service at the point of sale.
- Managing stock levels, minimising waste, and maximising merchandising opportunities.
- Supporting the team by fostering a friendly and inclusive environment.
- Handling financial transactions accurately and efficiently.
About You:
We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team in a retail environment. You should have a solid understanding of best practices in store/roadhouse operations, with experience in stock management and point-of-sale systems.
You will provide excellent customer service, engage with community members, and assist with day-to-day tasks. Strong communication skills are important, as well as the ability to address and resolve customer issues effectively.
A commitment to fostering a friendly and inclusive work environment is essential, along with a willingness to adapt to changes. Basic computer skills are also important, and you should be open to learning new software as needed.
