Hybrid The Legal Advisor / Contract Specialist - Australia is responsible for assisting the Group General Counsel APAC and Senior Legal Counsel APAC in managing legal operations across Australia and (as needed) the wider Asia Pacific region. You will provide commercial contract support for customer sales and other general contract matters. This role supports Weir Group and each Weir Division and is responsible for providing practical and robust commercial contract advice and support and managing changes to legal operations across the region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the development and management of legal operations, including identifying business operational needs and potential solutions, strategic planning, developing and rolling out business process, documentation, and legal training.
  • Assist the Group General Counsel APAC and Senior Legal Counsel APAC with a broad range of contract and general legal matters across Australia and the region.
  • Develop close working relationships with Weir businesses to provide timely, commercially orientated and sound contract advice, and enable business to build and grow legal maturity and acumen.
  • Assist Senior Legal Counsel APAC to provide commercial contract support for customer sales and other general contract matters.
  • Assist with implementation of Weir Legal policies, including the Code of Conduct, Weir Competition Manual and Weir Commercial Manual, and identify opportunities for and provide legal and compliance training.
  • Identify, appoint and instruct external law firms as required.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
  • 5 or more years’ legal and / or commercial contract experience gained in a well-regarded law firm, in-house, or in business context either as non-lawyer / contract manager or advisor, or as lawyer (legal qualification / lawyer not essential, but highly valued).
  • Industry experience highly desirable.
  • Tertiary educated to degree level in Law is preferable.
  • Experience working for a major international company or acting on behalf of such companies within a top-tier law firm is preferable.
  • Experience working on complex international corporate and commercial transactions is highly valued.
  • Excellent communication skills and commercial acumen.
