  • Are you currently studying in a Town Planning, Urban and Regional Planning degree or equivalent studies at an NSW University?
  • 3-4 year Fixed-term contract, 35 Hours per week

City of Newcastle (CN) is excited to share this incredible opportunity for an Undergraduate Planner to join the Planning and Development team.

In this role you will get to work alongside a team of professionals, gaining practical and industry relevant experience while you complete your Town Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, or equivalent studies at your chosen NSW University.

The Undergraduate Planner will assist with the preparation of strategic plans, assessment and determination of development applications, carry out site inspections, suggest recommendations relating to development matters, and provide professional and technical planning advice to the community including internal and external customers.

What are the opportunities you will have?

The undergraduate position may rotate between the Strategic Planning Team and Development Assessment Team, depending on current work projects, priorities, and staff resourcing.

Whilst working with the Strategic Planning team you will:

  • Assist with the preparation of specialist strategic land use and development policy advice to assist in the development and management of land use planning strategies and other strategic policy documents of Council.

Whilst working with Development Assessment team you will,

  • Assist with the assessment and determination of development applications, applications to carry out activities and applications for certificates within the constraints of delegated authority and in accordance with relevant statutory requirements.
