Description:

Gemco Rail, a subsidiary of Engenco Limited, specialises in the manufacture of rail products and provision of maintenance services to national rail operators. The company provides wheel-sets, bogies and in-field wagon maintenance, and manufactures new and refurbished wagons, bogie component parts, rail track maintenance equipment, and customised, remote-controlled ballast car discharge gates, as well as repair, maintenance and refurbishment of locomotives.

We now have an exciting opportunity for two experienced Boilermakers to join the team on a casual basis based in Telarah, Newcastle. The primary function of this role is to assess, prepare and repair rolling stock including wagons of all types and overhaul and repair wheelset bogies or other rail units as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the welding of components to a finished state.
  • Remove and replace worn or damaged components
  • Repair worn and damaged components
  • Ensure that all welding is to a standard of AS4280
  • Carries out Bogie inspections
  • Carry out metal fabrication of components
  • Read drawings and manufacture components as per drawings
  • Carry out oxy cutting and welding procedures to rolling stock equipment / able to use Plasma Cutter
  • Modify existing components through metal fabrication process
  • Manufacture and fabricate brackets, fixtures, tooling, fittings and equipment.
  • Able to conduct minor mechanical repairs to ARC, MIG + Welders

Essential:

  • National relevant trade qualifications
  • C Class Drivers licence
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Sound general engineering knowledge
  • Ability to work unsupervised and adhere to strict deadlines
  • Able to perform general fitting duties

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in the rail industry would be highly sought, though not essential
  • National High Risk Work Licence – Forklift

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical and provide a current police check.
