The Technical Services Superintendent leads the team in mine planning, production scheduling, geology, laboratory and survey to ensure safe and efficient operations. The role involves driving performance, managing technical initiatives, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, while working closely with various teams across the site.
Metro Mining Limited (ASX:MMI) is an Australian exploration and mining company based in Brisbane. Metro’s flagship project, the Bauxite Hills Operation, located 95km north of Weipa, is one of the largest independent projects within the internationally acclaimed Weipa Bauxite Region.
Role and responsibilities
Working collaboratively, in this role you will be challenged with a diverse range of opportunities to contribute your skills and experience to improving and understanding our operations.
Reporting to the General Manager, Technical, Projects and Improvement, this role contributes by:
- Leading, Managing, developing and supporting the Technical Services team to drive performance and foster continuous improvement.
- Ensuring smooth operational continuity within the Technical Services team, aligning efforts with broader business objectives.
- Developing, implementing and monitoring technical initiatives to meet strategic objectives while prioritising safety and efficiency.
- Providing leadership and guidance to a multidisciplinary team of Mining, Geological, Laboratory, and Survey professionals, influencing decision-making at all levels.
- Managing production scheduling to ensure consistency with sales targets and shipping requirements.
- Refining grade control systems to improve product predictability and reliability for customers.
- Conducting mine reconciliations and generate performance reports to inform business decisions.
- Preparing and managing the department’s operating and capital budgets, ensuring financial discipline.
- Driving innovation in rehabilitation techniques, ensuring sustainable mine rehabilitation processes.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders, including executives, project managers, and technical teams, to align with overall business objectives.

You will be responsible for actively supporting a team focused on operational excellence and insights-driven decision making.
To be considered for this opportunity you must have a good number of the following attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- S1, S2, S3 and G2 qualifications.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in open pit mining.
- Experience leading technical services teams and managing open pit operations.
- Strong leadership, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and project management abilities.
- Financial acumen with expertise in cost analysis and cost-saving initiatives.
- Experience with production monitoring and optimising project outcomes.
- Ability to review and analyse mining schedules, productivity, and costs.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Microsoft Power BI or similar reporting highly regarded but not essential.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
