About Us

The Central Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Unit (CAAFLU) provides vital legal assistance and wrap-around support services to Aboriginal people who have experienced family, domestic, and sexual violence. We are based in Alice Springs and operate with a strong commitment to cultural safety, holistic care, and community-led justice.

About the Role

We're seeking the new position of Specialist DFV Court Support Worker to join our dedicated team in Alice Springs. This vital role is based primarily at the Alice Springs Local Court, where you'll be supporting clients engaged with the Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Court.

This is not just a support role—it’s about advocacy, safety planning, and cultural care. You’ll work alongside our legal practitioners, helping clients feel heard, safe, and supported every step of the way.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional and practical support to Aboriginal women and families at court

  • Conduct culturally sensitive intake interviews and risk assessments

  • Attend court and support clients during proceedings

  • Assist with referrals to housing, counselling, safety programs and other services

  • Maintain confidential case files and accurate records

  • Advocate for culturally appropriate support in all case meetings

  • Liaise with legal staff and community partners to ensure wrap-around care

About You

You are someone who listens deeply, advocates strongly, and believes in community-led solutions to family violence.

Essential Criteria:

  • Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and the impacts of DFSV

  • Experience supporting vulnerable people, ideally Aboriginal women and families

  • Ability to assess needs, conduct safety planning, and connect clients with services

  • Strong communication and listening skills, including cross-cultural competence

  • Strong time management and administrative skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team

  • Willingness to obtain: NT Driver’s License, Ochre Card, Police Check & Land Permits

Desirable Criteria:

  • Qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, or related field

  • Experience in legal, family violence or Aboriginal community-controlled settings

  • Knowledge of the NT legal system as it relates to DFSV
