The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join the senior executive leadership team as Deputy Commissioner, Operations. Reporting directly to the Commissioner, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of the Northern Territory community by providing high-quality adult custodial services and addressing the rehabilitation needs of prisoners.
As Deputy Commissioner, Operations, you will provide senior leadership across adult custodial service delivery streams, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. You will lead the implementation of evidence-based custodial operations, offender rehabilitation strategies, and throughcare services, to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Your leadership will foster a culture of engagement, ethical decision-making, and empowerment across the organisation.
You will be responsible for driving reforms to improve correctional services, ensuring productivity and measurable outcomes, and leveraging professional networks to enhance the department's capabilities. Building and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community organisations, and Indigenous Elders, will be essential in achieving improved correctional service outcomes. Additionally, you will provide strategic direction across a diverse portfolio, developing governance frameworks and policies to strengthen organisational capability.
To succeed in this role, you will bring experience as a senior leader in a complex corrections or criminal justice environment, delivering strategic results and managing operational challenges. You will play a key role in leading business reforms and driving organisational change.
You will lead with ethical and values-based leadership, overseeing large, multi-disciplinary teams across safety, security, offender rehabilitation, risk management, and governance. Your expertise in these areas will be essential for effective operational management.
Your understanding of contemporary issues in the corrections and criminal justice systems will guide your decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are critical for engaging with government stakeholders, building organisational capability, and leading change initiatives.
