Description:
The role of Senior Adviser, Substance Misuse Programs and Services is responsible for assisting with the management of the outsourced service delivery model for substance misuse interventions for prisoners and offenders across the state.
This position assists in the ongoing monitoring of contracted services to ensure they are delivered as intended and that they are provided in accordance with relevant standards, key performance indicators and agreed program outputs and outcomes. In addition, this position provides assistance, training and support to Agency staff and contracted providers delivering substance misuse interventions within correctional centres and Community Corrections.

The Senior Adviser Substance Misuse Programs and Services will:
- Support implementation of substance misuse programs and services in accordance with endorsed models and contracts with external providers.
- Monitor the delivery of substance misuse programs and services state-wide and promote continuous improvement in service delivery.
- Coordinate quality assurance processes for the delivery of substance misuse programs and services.
- Conduct and assist with regular site visits to support service design integrity and monitor adherence to the relevant performance and outcome indicators.
- Maintain a high standard of professional knowledge and skill in substance misuse and the broader rehabilitation fields.
- Assist with the preparation of strategic advice, correspondence and reports on service delivery within the Agency.
- Identify and respond appropriately to emerging risks in contracted service delivery including appropriate liaison with the Principal Adviser as well as operational site management as required.
- Provide direction and guidance regarding the identification and treatment of prisoners with substance abuse behaviours, as well as providing strategies for initial response.
- Contribute to training for staff to develop their skills and ensure that support is provided in dealing with complex cases or offender groups including leading case conferences with operational sites regarding appropriate referral to the various substance abuse programs where required.
- Promote best practice in offender substance abuse programs and services utilising knowledge of current trends and research.
- Develop and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships.
- Provide information to support collaborative relationships with other business units, contracted service providers and the community sector.
- Engage in effective, open communication with all external service providers delivering both in custody and community settings.
- Maintain knowledge of work activities and practice issues impacting the operational delivery of programs and services.
There are no mandatory qualifications, conditions or requirements for this position however a degree in psychology, education, social work or a related discipline would be highly regarded.
Travel may be a requirement, as this position may be required to work at different sites.
