This is a full-time (term-time only), residential position at our Corio campus where you will live in self-contained accommodation within the Boarding House.


About the role:

Reporting to the Head of House, you will be responsible for providing high quality pastoral care to students (approx. 60 female Year 10-12 students), coordinating house domestic duties and supporting house staff in all aspects of student welfare.

This position is required to workday, afternoon and evening shifts, as well as weekends and overnights.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Meet students and parents at start of the Term (and at other times when appropriate) and obtain any relevant information relating to student welfare and/or health needs

  • Provide minor First Aid to students and keep appropriate records, including the administration of medication

  • Liaising with Kennedy Health Centre, support the arrangement of all aspects of a student’s visit to medical or related welfare specialists including doctors, physiotherapists, podiatrists, dentists, and orthodontists and to ensure that the Head of House/Assistant Head of House is aware of their times of absence

  • Utilise the School’s student management system to record all student absences from class, sport and activities for medical or other reasons to ensure the information is recorded accurately

  • Oversee the management of all aspects of hygiene on both an individual and a House basis

  • Coordinate the provision of laundry bags, pegs, safety pins, clean sheets, mattress protectors and pillow slips as required and supervise the sorting of clothing from the laundry and dry cleaners and monitor students’ clothing and uniforms to ensure they are appropriate, labelled, in good condition and, where necessary, ensure replacement and/or repair through the School Shop

  • Support the serving of supper for students in the House in consultation with the Head of House/Assistant Head of House and the Tutor on Duty

Hours of work:

The Boarding House Assistant works during term time only. The hours of work per week are averaged over a term. Specific hours of work may vary from time to time depending on the House roster but are expected to include as an example:

Weekdays

  • 4 days per week for up to 9 hours per day

Weekends

  • Saturday shifts are up to 9 hours per day (as defined by the School)

Overnight

  • As this is a residential position, you are required to be available and ‘on call’ overnight when rostered on duty

About you:

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • The ability and desire to supervise and meet the pastoral care and welfare needs of children and/or adolescents

  • An understanding of the dynamics and operations of a Boarding School

  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills

  • A current Victorian Drivers licence

  • A current First Aid Qualifications (Level 2)

  • A current Anaphylaxis Management Accreditation

The following skills are highly desirable:

  • Previous experience working with children and adolescents within an educational/care environment.
